Reviews

Five-star reviews across London

  • They filled every hairline crack before a drop of paint went on, which is why the ceiling still looks flat under the big window.

HannahTwo bedrooms and a landing, Islington

  • The render on the front had gone patchy and green. It was jet washed, cracks stopped, two coats of masonry paint. Neighbours have asked who did it.

    MarcusFront render, Sutton

  • Twenty-two doors and drawer fronts taken away, sprayed and rehung in a week. The finish is closer to factory than brush.

    PriyaKitchen doors sprayed, Brent

  • Three floors of Victorian hallway with a lot of spindles. Tidy, on time each morning, and the woodwork is glass smooth.

    TomHallway, stairs and landing, Archway

  • A mansion-block flat with high ceilings and a concierge to keep happy. Dust sheets everywhere, lift protected, done in four days.

EleanorWhole flat repaint, City of Westminster

  • Sash windows burnt off, primed and finished in an oil-based gloss. They said it would take the weather better than the quick water-based stuff and so far it has.

How it works

How a decorating job runs, from the first message to the last touch-up

The order never changes; the detail does. Every stage is on the quote so you know what you are paying for.

  1. Quote from your sizes and photos

Room sizes, what the surfaces are like now, what you want. A written price that itemises preparation, coats and products.

  2. Protect and prepare

Floors and furniture sheeted, then filling, sanding, sealing and priming. Usually a third to a half of the time on site.

  3. Paint in the right order

Ceilings, walls, then woodwork. Two full coats, cut in by brush, rolled towards the light.

  4. Snag in daylight and hand back

A walk round with you, touch-ups done there and then, masking off, room left clean.

About Pro Chaps

Decorators who treat the filling and sanding as the main event

Pro Chaps is a London painting and decorating firm covering the capital and the towns within about 20 miles. Interiors, exteriors, spray finishes, staining and varnishing, plastering and wallpaper come from one team, so a job that needs three of them is planned as one. The quote lists the preparation, the coats and the products, and the work is sequenced so nothing is done twice. More on the way we work is on the about page.

Questions

Straight answers to the questions London customers ask first

Anything not covered here is answered by email through the contact page, and the longer answers live in our decorating guides.

How do you quote a decorating job in London?

Send the room sizes, what the walls and woodwork are like now, and what you want them to be through the Quick Quote form. We reply with a written price that lists the preparation, the number of coats and the products, so you can compare it line by line.

Do you cover the whole of London or just the centre?

Both. The base is London and the areas we cover run out to roughly 20 miles, so Sutton, Bexley, Barking and Brent are all normal jobs, as are Islington, Archway and the City of Westminster in the middle.

Can you paint the outside of a house as well as the inside?

Yes. Exterior painting, masonry paint on render and brick, and exterior woodwork such as sash windows, fascias and front doors are all part of the service, weather permitting between roughly March and October.

Do you do plastering, or only painting?

We plaster too. Blown or cracked plaster is hacked off and re-skimmed, then painted once it has properly dried, so one firm carries the job from bare wall to finished colour.

What is the difference between spray painting and brushing?

Spraying lays a thinner, more even film with no brush marks, which suits kitchen doors, radiators, panelled doors and large plain walls. Brushing and rolling suit rooms with lots of furniture and detail. We use whichever gives the better finish for the surface.

How long does a typical room take?

A standard double bedroom in good condition is usually two days: one for preparation and the first coats, one for the finish coats. Rooms with cracked ceilings, old wallpaper to strip or lots of woodwork take longer, and the quote says how long.
