Five-star reviews from London homes

The same standard on a single door as on a whole house

Reviews

Five-star reviews across London

  • A wide-pattern paper in the living room with the joins matched perfectly across the chimney breast. Very careful work.

    SofiaWallpaper, Barking

  • Blown plaster hacked off, reboarded and skimmed, then painted a week later once it had dried. One firm for both jobs saved a lot of chasing.

    JamesPlastering and paint, London

  • Pine boards sanded and stained a mid oak, then three coats of lacquer. It matched the colour sample they did on an offcut first.

    AishaFloor staining, Islington

  • Painted the shop over two nights so we never closed. The shutters were sprayed too and the sign-writer had a clean wall to work on.

    BenShop unit, Brent

  • They warned me pebbledash drinks paint and quoted three coats, not two. The front is even all over now, no grey showing between the stones.

    CharlottePebbledash semi, Sutton

  • Three-storey stairwell with a big repeat. They built a platform in the well and the pattern runs straight round the landing. Not a seam showing.

Most decorating jobs are two or three of these at once: the render outside and the hallway inside, a kitchen respray while the floors are being sanded, plaster first and paint a week later. The sequence is planned as one job from the Pro Chaps home page onwards, wherever you are in the London areas we cover. If you are not sure which page fits, the contact page takes the whole list in one go, and how we work explains what happens after you send it.

  1. Rendering Painting by Pro Chaps

    Rendering Painting

Sand and cement render, pebbledash, painted brick and Victorian stucco all take masonry paint well, once the cracks are stopped and the surface is clean. We do the boring part properly, then two full coats.

    • Exterior masonry paint on London render: what the job actually involves
    • Masonry paint for brick, render, pebbledash and stucco
    • Surfaces, substrates and what goes wrong when the wrong product is used

Often asked: How many coats of masonry paint does render need?

  2. Spray Painting by Pro Chaps

    Spray Painting

Airless and HVLP spraying lays down a thin, even film with no brush marks and no roller texture. It is the right tool for kitchen cabinets, panelled doors, radiators, furniture, shopfronts and big plain walls.

    • Spray painting for homes and businesses across London
    • On-site and off-site spraying
    • Furniture, kitchens and joinery finishes

Often asked: How long does a sprayed kitchen last?

  3. Wood Staining by Pro Chaps

    Wood Staining

Floorboards, doors, staircases, skirting, sash windows, fences and decking. A stain colours the wood and lets the grain show; a treatment protects it. We do both, and match colours on an offcut before touching the real thing.

    • Wood floor staining: the process
    • Sanding and surface preparation
    • Colour matching and stain selection

Often asked: Can you stain pine to look like oak?

  4. Plastering by Pro Chaps

    Plastering

Skim coats over sound plaster and Artex, plasterboard where the old lath and lime has gone, patch repairs around new sockets and pipework, and full re-plastering of rooms. Then we paint it once it has dried.

    • Plastering work we take on in London homes and flats
    • What to do about Artex
    • How a skim and paint job runs

Often asked: How long does new plaster take to dry before painting?

  5. Painter Decorator by Pro Chaps

    Painter Decorator

Whole-house redecoration, a flat between tenants, a hallway with three floors of spindles, or one room done properly. Walls, ceilings, woodwork, wallpaper and the outside, from a team that treats filling and sanding as the main event.

    • What a Pro Chaps decorating job includes
    • Interior, exterior and everything between
    • How a job runs, from quote to hand over

Often asked: How much preparation do you do before painting?

  6. Exterior Painting by Pro Chaps

    Exterior Painting

Sash windows, front doors, fascias and soffits, bay roofs, railings, garden walls and the rendered or stuccoed elevation itself. Painted in the right season with products chosen to shed rain and hold colour.

    • Exterior painting services for London houses and flats
    • House and facade preparation
    • Surface repair and restoration

Often asked: When is the best time of year for exterior painting in London?

  7. Varnishing by Pro Chaps

    Varnishing

A clear finish is what stands between bare timber and daily life. We sand, stain where the colour is wanted, and build up two or three coats of the right varnish, lacquer or oil for the way the surface is used.

    • Preparation and surface assessment
    • Sanding, stripping and gap filling
    • Staining and colour matching

Often asked: Should I varnish or oil my wooden floor?

  8. Interior Painting by Pro Chaps

    Interior Painting

Single rooms to whole houses. Ceilings, walls and woodwork prepared, primed and painted in two full coats, with clean cut lines at the ceiling and the skirting and no roller marks under the window.

    • Interior painting services for houses and flats in London
    • Wall and ceiling painting
    • Woodwork, trim and finishing

Often asked: How much does the preparation matter compared to the paint?

  9. Wallpapering by Pro Chaps

    Wallpapering

Feature walls, full rooms, hallways with a three-storey drop, and stairwells. Traditional pasted papers, paste-the-wall, wide-width murals and lining paper under paint. Walls made ready first, seams flat, pattern lined up across the chimney breast.

    • Wallpapering for London homes: feature walls to full rooms
    • What we hang
    • How a wallpapering job runs

Often asked: How many rolls of wallpaper do I need?

  10. Commercial Decorating by Pro Chaps

    Commercial Decorating

Retail units, offices, cafes and restaurants, communal hallways and stairwells in blocks, HMOs and rental portfolios. Evenings, weekends and phased working so the business keeps trading, with durable coatings that survive the public.

    • Commercial painting and decorating across London
    • What we do for commercial customers
    • How a commercial job runs

Often asked: Can you decorate a shop without it closing?

How it works

Whatever the trade, the job runs in the same four stages

Preparation is where the time goes and where the finish is decided. It is itemised on every quote, for every service.

  1. Quote from your sizes and photos

Room sizes, what the surfaces are like now, what you want. A written price that itemises preparation, coats and products.

  2. Protect and prepare

Floors and furniture sheeted, then filling, sanding, sealing and priming. Usually a third to a half of the time on site.

  3. Paint in the right order

Ceilings, walls, then woodwork. Two full coats, cut in by brush, rolled towards the light.

  4. Snag in daylight and hand back

A walk round with you, touch-ups done there and then, masking off, room left clean.
