Ten trades under one roof, so the job is planned once
Most decorating firms do the painting and bring in someone else for the plaster, the spraying or the floors. Pro Chaps keeps the ten services listed on the services directory in one team: interior and exterior painting, masonry paint on render, spray finishes for kitchens and doors, wood staining and varnishing, plastering, wallpapering and commercial work. A job that needs three of them gets one quote, one sequence and one person to talk to.
The base is London. Coverage runs from the central boroughs out to roughly 20 miles, which takes in the whole of Greater London and a ring of towns beyond it. The properties change with the postcode, from Georgian stucco in Islington to interwar render in Bexley, and the method changes with them. What stays the same is the order: protect, prepare, paint, snag.
The paint is trade grade and named on the quote: Dulux Trade, Johnstone's and Crown Trade as standard, Farrow and Ball, Little Greene and the like when you have chosen them. If a surface will not take the finish you want, we say so before quoting rather than after painting. Every quote lists the preparation, the number of coats and the products by name. You can compare it line by line with anyone else's, and you know before we start what "prepared" means for your walls.
Preparation is most of the job
Filling, sanding, sealing stains, priming bare plaster and caulking the gaps is usually a third to a half of the time on site. It is the part that decides whether a wall looks flat under a window, so it is never rushed to get to the colour.
One team, one sequence
Render outside, plaster inside, a kitchen to spray and floors to sand are one job with one start date, planned so the plasterer is not working over a finished floor and the sprayer is not masking a wet wall.
A London way of working
Permits, porters, lifts, leasehold hours and neighbours through the wall are part of every job in the capital. They are sorted before the van arrives, and the site is tidy at the end of every day because most customers are still living in it.
